Bagbury Golf Course - a Guide
Bagbury is a par 34, nine hole course that is a very good test of golf and will examine your competence with every club in your bag . . .
... especially your short Irons to the smallish greens. However, those chasing a good score will need their Driver on five out of the nine holes. Whilst the other holes require accurate tee shots with either Irons or Fairway Woods if you are to hit the green with your second shot.
Course Description
1st A lovely short par 4 that starts at the very entrance to the golf course from a mat on some hard standing (perfect in winter). Just avoid the corner of a hedge as you aim up the slope and with a good lie you should be on the green for 2 making it a very possible Birdie to start the round.
2nd A devilish par 3 which looks simple from
the tee but certainly is not. A correctly flighted ball
is essential if you are to find this green.
3rd On the card a shortish par 4 but the driver is up a slight hill, costing you distance. Distance judgment of the second shot is crucial - through the green is to be avoided!
4th The tee shot might be only a 5-Wood but accuracy is vital if you are to avoid the very large ash tree on the right hand side of the fairway. Too close to this and you have no shot to the green!
5th A dog-leg to the right calling for an accurate tee shot. Perhaps a medium Iron accurately placed will open up the green for your second shot.
6th A good drive will cut the corner over the hawthorn hedge. Shorter hitters can navigate their way down the fairway through the wide gap in this hedge.
7th A testing drive to find the fairway, followed by a second shot up a slight incline. Walk off here with a 4 (net of gross) and you’ve played the hole well.
8th A testing par three of 203 yards. A ditch in front of the green means most sensible golfers will lay up and hope to get down in 2. The brave, but foolish, might try to get on in one!
9th An attractive hole dog-legging to the left. A good drive following the curve of the fairway should set you up for a mid-short Iron shot to a receptive green.
