Bagbury Golf Course - a Guide
Bagbury is a par 35 nine hole course that is a very good test of golf and will examine your competence with every club in your bag . . .
... especially your short Irons to the smallish greens. However, those chasing a good score will need their Driver on five out of the nine holes. Whilst the other holes require accurate tee shots with either Irons or Fairway Woods if you are to hit the green with your second shot.
Course Description
1st On the card a shortish par 4 but the driver is up a slight hill, costing you distance. Distance judgment of the second shot is crucial - through the green is to be avoided!
2nd The tee shot might be only a 5-Wood but accuracy is vital if you are to avoid the very large ash tree on the right hand side of the fairway. Too close to this and you have no shot to the green!
3rd A dog-leg to the right calling for an accurate tee shot. Perhaps a medium Iron accurately placed will open up the green for your second shot.
4th A good drive will cut the corner over the hawthorn hedge. Shorter hitters can navigate their way through the fairway wide gap in this hedge.
5th A testing drive to find the fairway, followed by a second shot up a slight incline. Walk off here with a 4 (net of gross) and you’ve played the hole well.
6th A testing par three of 203 yards. A ditch in front of the green means most sensible golfers will lay up and hope to get down in 2. The brave, but foolish, might try to get on in one!
7th An attractive hole dog-legging tot he left. A good drive following the curve of the fairway should set you up for a mid-short Iron shot to a receptive green.
8th A par five which opens with an interesting
drive to avoid an overhanging branch some 80
yards down the fairway. OOB down the right hand
of the fairway makes you concentrate on your
second shot. If this has been successful, your third
shot is to a receptive green.
9th A devilish par three which looks simple from
the tee but certainly is not. A correctly flighted ball
is essential if you are to find this green
